My spring illustration project is complete! The story “Heritage” describes the tenth birthday celebration for orphaned Hileko Heruvael-son from the perspective of a younger Historian Hened, who is not yet Master Historian. (This story takes place in 392 AK, five years after the events of “Hened Ascendant.”)
For the illustration, I wanted to depict Hileko’s parting from Hened at the end of “Heritage.” Hopefully the setting and lighting help convey the mood, since hyarmi expressions are not the same as those of humans.
Hileko stopped walking, so Hened stopped as well. He realized he had angled toward the path which led to their camp, and also knew that he could not face Hileko’s foster family again without saying something regrettable.
