As mentioned in my previous post, some of my stories start as a vision. ‘Resurrection’ came to me in April 2010 while on a plane flying to California to visit family. The story itself I wrote in July of that same year, which for me is tremendously fast.
Slaves in Sutherule do not anticipate retirement; they dread it. Retirement means being tied out somewhere to die of exposure, because they can no longer work hard enough to be considered worth feeding.
The story ‘Resurrection’ is the account of a slave in the Shipwright Clan who has long since forgotten his original name. When the day of his retirement arrives, he is tied out on a beach. There he is found and given one simple question: “Do you want to live?”
Marvels ensue.
My grateful thanks to two talented vendors on Renderosity: forester for the whale model and 3-D-C for the rope.
