Coat colors are shown below with the most common at the top. The hyarmi illustrated are all characters in the Geren’s Passage novels, with the exception of Messenger Holunn of Triune. The images also reveal the range of hyarmi eye colors. All hyarmi have dark noses along with dark whiskers, unless they are quite old.
Brown or Chestnut
Around thirty percent of hyarmi have this coat color. A range of hues can be found, with paler shades described as chestnut.
Brown and Tan
These hyarmi have the brown base color with patterning, which means they exhibit darker facial markings and chestnut fur on their faces and undersides. Close to twenty-five percent of hyarmi have this coat color.
Tan and Cream
These hyarmi have the chestnut base color with patterning, which means they exhibit darker facial markings and fawn fur on their faces and undersides. Around twenty percent of hyarmi have this coat color.
Ash-Brown
Most hyarmi have fur with each hair a single color from root to tip, but a portion of the population has agouti ticking, where two or more bands of color are present on each hair. This leads to an overall duller color when seen at a distance. Brown or chestnut hyarmi with agouti ticking are called ash-brown. A little over fifteen percent of hyarmi have this coat color.
Golden
These hyarmi lack brown hair entirely, but the intensity of the golden hue varies between individuals, especially for golden hyarmi with agouti ticking. About six percent of the population possess this fur color.
Fawn
These hyarmi have the lightest fur color but comprise only three percent of the population. The image above reveals how fur color can vary between individual hyarmi. Hened has the snowy muzzle that comes with age. Fawn hyarmi with strong agouti ticking are called silver fawn and quite rare.
Mahogany
A variation of the brown color with a strong red hue. Only one percent or less of the population have this coat color.
Extremely Rare Coat Colors
Hyarmi with albinism are rarely born and are always Healed. This is due to the poor eyesight and skin cancer risk associated with the condition, along with the fear that any white hyarmi would be targeted by human poachers or dark mages.
The rarest coat colors of all are black and ash-black. Entire generations can pass without these colors being seen.
